NFC Programmable Stickers (NTAG215)
Tap a sticker, trigger the world. These NTAG215 tags write in seconds from any NFC-enabled phone and fire automations, open URLs, share WiFi credentials, or emulate Amiibo figures. No app on the reading end, no batteries, no pairing.
NTAG215 is the exact chip spec Nintendo uses in official Amiibo, which makes these fully compatible with TagMo, Placiibo, and every major NFC automation stack. Each tag holds 504 bytes of user memory: enough for a URL, a vCard, WiFi credentials, or a Home Assistant webhook payload. Write once and lock it, or keep it rewritable and update the payload anytime.
Things to build with this
- Write a Home Assistant tag ID using the Companion app, then build an automation triggered by the NFC Tag scanned event to cut the lights, lock the doors, set the thermostat, and arm an alarm from a single tap on your nightstand sticker.
- Use TagMo or Placiibo to write Amiibo character data to a sticker, then embed it inside a custom 3D printed figure or card sleeve. The NTAG215 chip is the only spec the Nintendo toolchain recognizes, so this only works with this exact tag.
- Stick one tag on each piece of workshop equipment and write a URL pointing to that tool's maintenance log or safety checklist. Any phone reads it instantly with no app required, making it scannable by anyone on the floor.
Key Features
- NTAG215 chip: 504 bytes user memory, ISO 14443A compliant, 7-byte UID
- Amiibo-compatible: same chip spec as official Nintendo figures, works with TagMo (Android) and Placiibo (iOS)
- Rewritable by default: overwrite the payload anytime, or one-way write-lock to freeze it permanently
- Passive operation: no battery, no charging, powered entirely by the reader's RF field
- Works natively with NFC Tools, Apple Shortcuts, Home Assistant Companion, and Tasker
- Adhesive backing: sticks to desks, doors, equipment panels, inside phone cases, or under printed labels
- Thin form factor: fits flush inside a 3D printed enclosure or under a label overlay
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these to make custom Amiibo?
Yes. NTAG215 is the exact chip spec Nintendo uses in official Amiibo figures. Use TagMo on Android or Placiibo on iOS to write the character data. Each sticker holds one character. Both apps require you to source the encrypted Amiibo key files separately before writing.
How do I connect one of these to a Home Assistant automation?
Open the Home Assistant Companion app, go to Settings, then Tags, and scan a blank sticker to register it and generate a tag ID. Then build an automation using the NFC Tag scanned trigger, select your registered tag, and add your actions. Works identically on iOS and Android.
Can any phone read these without a special app?
If the tag is programmed with a URL, most modern iPhones (iOS 13+) and NFC-enabled Android phones will read it natively with no app required. Trigger-based payloads like Home Assistant automations or Tasker tasks do require the relevant companion app installed on the reading device.
What happens if I want to change what a sticker does later?
Just write a new payload using NFC Tools or any compatible app. The tag overwrites cleanly. If you want to prevent future edits, most NFC apps include a one-way write-lock option that permanently freezes the payload. This cannot be undone.
Why we stock this
Curated by Kindly Morrow. We test and vet every product before it hits the store. If we wouldn't use it in our own builds, we don't sell it.
Things to build with this
Fun projects to try once you get your hands on it.
Movie mode with one tap
NFC tag on your coffee table. Tap your phone: lights dim, TV turns on, blinds close. Tap again to undo. Feels like magic every time.
Laundry notification system
Vibration sensor on your washing machine. When it stops vibrating, your phone buzzes. No more forgetting wet clothes for 3 days.
Automatic night light path
Motion sensors in the hallway trigger dim warm lights at floor level after 10pm. Walk to the bathroom without waking up fully.
Mailbox alert
Contact sensor on the mailbox door. Home Assistant sends a notification when mail arrives. Never walk to an empty mailbox again.
