Tuya WiFi Relay Module Single Channel 5V/12V Smart Switch

$13.99
WiWiFi

Flash this with Tasmota or ESPHome and you have a local-control WiFi relay for under $15. No cloud required, no subscriptions, no phone-home nonsense. Pull it straight from the box and it works with Tuya's app, or spend five minutes with tuya-convert and make it yours.

The heart is an ESP8266, which means full community firmware support, OTA updates, and direct MQTT publishing without a middleman. The onboard relay handles up to 10A, covering most lights, fans, pumps, and small motors. Accepts 5V or 12V input depending on what your project already has on hand.

Things to build with this

  • Flash ESPHome, wire the relay inline with your workshop dust collector, and build an automation that triggers the collector whenever your table saw's current sensor detects draw above 2A. The ESP8266's GPIO reads the sensor, publishes to Home Assistant, and the relay fires in under 100ms.
  • Use the logic-level trigger input alongside a reed sensor on a garage door, then flash Tasmota and configure the pulse mode to send a timed 500ms trigger instead of a latching signal. That matches exactly how most garage door openers expect a button press, giving you MQTT-based open/close without touching the existing hardware.
  • Wire this behind a 12V solenoid valve on an irrigation line, flash with ESPHome, and write a Home Assistant automation that checks a local weather API for tomorrow's rain probability before enabling the morning watering schedule. All processing stays on your local network, the relay just does the switching.

Key Features

  • ESP8266 MCU: WiFi-native, flashable via serial or OTA with Tasmota, ESPHome, or custom firmware
  • Single-channel relay: 10A rated, handles resistive loads up to 2200W at 220V
  • Dual input voltage: 5V or 12V DC, with onboard regulation so your logic stays clean
  • Tuya cloud ready out of box: pairs with Tuya Smart or Smart Life app in under two minutes
  • MQTT support (post-flash): publish relay state and receive commands from any broker
  • Logic-level trigger input: control the relay directly from a microcontroller GPIO without reflashing
  • Home Assistant compatible: ESPHome integration exposes the relay as a native switch entity with full automation support

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still flash this with Tasmota now that tuya-convert is mostly blocked?

Tuya has patched OTA flashing on most newer firmware versions, so tuya-convert is unreliable now. You'll want to open the module and flash via the ESP8266's serial pins (TX, RX, GND, 3.3V) using esptool. It's a five-minute job if you have a USB-to-serial adapter.

Will the 5V input work directly from a Raspberry Pi or Arduino power rail?

Yes. The module runs cleanly off a 5V supply. Keep in mind the relay coil draws around 70-80mA when energized, so power it from a dedicated supply rather than directly from an Arduino 5V pin, which is current-limited through the onboard regulator.

Does the relay switch the load directly, or do I need additional wiring?

The relay is wired to screw terminals for COM, NO (normally open), and NC (normally closed). You wire your load directly through those terminals. The module does not include a mains power inlet, so you're splicing it into an existing circuit.

What's the difference between using the logic-level trigger and the WiFi control?

The logic-level input lets you control the relay directly from a GPIO pin on another microcontroller, bypassing WiFi entirely. Useful for local failsafe logic or when you want a hardware trigger that doesn't depend on network state. Both can work simultaneously after flashing custom firmware.
