Zigbee Door Sensor - Tuya Compatible Battery Wireless
Snap this to any door or window and get instant Zigbee 3.0 events in your automation stack. No wiring, no hub subscription, no cloud required if you run your own coordinator. Reed switch triggers fire the moment the two halves separate past 15mm.
Pairs directly with Zigbee2MQTT, Home Assistant ZHA, or Hubitat without touching the Tuya app. The Zigbee 3.0 mesh protocol lets it route through other Zigbee devices on your network, so distance to your coordinator is rarely a problem. CR2032 battery powers it for months of daily triggers.
Things to build with this
- Use the open/close event stream in Zigbee2MQTT to publish MQTT topics, then write a Node-RED flow that cross-references your calendar API and only sends a phone alert if a door opens during a time block marked 'away'
- Wire the close event into a Home Assistant automation that reads your thermostat's current mode and suppresses heating or cooling calls whenever this sensor reports a window as open, cutting HVAC runtime without any manual override
- Pair three of these with a Zigbee coordinator and a small display board to build a visual door-state dashboard using ZHA's websocket API, polling each sensor's last-changed timestamp to show which entry was last opened and how long ago
Key Features
- Zigbee 3.0: mesh-capable, routes through other Zigbee devices on your network
- Reed switch trigger: 15mm separation threshold, opens and closes events both reported
- CR2032 battery: months of runtime, low-battery state reported over Zigbee
- Tuya Smart Life app: works out of the box for non-coder household members
- Zigbee2MQTT + Home Assistant ZHA + Hubitat + SmartThings: all confirmed compatible
- Compact two-piece form factor: adhesive mount fits standard door and window frames
- Instant event reporting: open and close state changes push to your coordinator in real time
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this require the Tuya cloud to function, or can it run fully local?
Fully local is supported. Pair it with a Zigbee coordinator running Zigbee2MQTT or Home Assistant ZHA and it never touches Tuya's servers. The Tuya Smart Life app is optional, not required.
Will it work with a ConBee II or SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB dongle?
Yes. Any coordinator that runs Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA will recognize it. ConBee II, SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus, and CC2652-based sticks are all confirmed working.
How long does the battery actually last?
Expect 6 to 12 months depending on trigger frequency. A door that opens 20 times a day will drain it faster than a rarely used window. The sensor reports low-battery state over Zigbee before it dies, so you get a warning.
Can it be mounted on a metal door without signal issues?
Zigbee 2.4GHz does experience some attenuation near metal surfaces. The sensor itself will still trigger correctly since it uses a reed switch, but signal range to your coordinator may be reduced. Positioning the antenna side away from the metal frame helps.
Why we stock this
Curated by Kindly Morrow. We test and vet every product before it hits the store. If we wouldn't use it in our own builds, we don't sell it.
Things to build with this
Fun projects to try once you get your hands on it.
Movie mode with one tap
NFC tag on your coffee table. Tap your phone: lights dim, TV turns on, blinds close. Tap again to undo. Feels like magic every time.
Laundry notification system
Vibration sensor on your washing machine. When it stops vibrating, your phone buzzes. No more forgetting wet clothes for 3 days.
Automatic night light path
Motion sensors in the hallway trigger dim warm lights at floor level after 10pm. Walk to the bathroom without waking up fully.
Mailbox alert
Contact sensor on the mailbox door. Home Assistant sends a notification when mail arrives. Never walk to an empty mailbox again.
